Two cool kids!

We went to Xanten this weekend.  It's a cute little town about an hour and a half away....it was hard to choose some of my favorite pictures so I just posted lots!  It was a GREAT day!

A street view.

A super cute house.

The windmill in town.

I liked all the flower boxes on this building.

Ahhhh!

Beautiful walking trails around the town.

We stopped for lunch at an adorable cafe.

I ate the best cheese sandwich I've ever had!  William had a club sandwich.

Not sure if you can see the grapes on this vine, but these grape vines lined the outdoor area of the cafe.

A flower walkway to the bathroom.

Logan wanted to take these chickens with him!

The name of the cafe.

Xanten also has an Archaeological Park with Roman Ruins on display.  There were tree lined walk ways throughout the park.

Some of the ruins.

Inside the museum.

A cafe on the Archaeological Park - which you conveniently had to walk through to get to the other side of the park in order to see the main attraction ruins.

How cool is this??!!

It's like a mini Athens, Greece right down the road from us!

The hike up the steps.

Enjoying the view from the top.

Columns up close.....I'm still just amazed at the architectural detail from so long ago.

We got Logan a little roller truck while there.....and he wanted to roll it over everything.

A family pose.

More ruins......not sure what those are.....

.....but this was part of their sewage system - again, amazed at the ancient ingenuity!

This was pretty cool - horse and carriage completely carved out of wood.

A water play area for the kids.

That cork screw brought water up from the pool, and distributed it throughout the little channels for the kids to splash in.

Splashin'!

This was the kids playground!  There was a ramp up to the walk-ways, so Connor (in the stroller) and I got to chase Logan and William all over.

Another pretty view.

A statue outside the coliseum.

Looking down into the coliseum.

Exploring under the coliseum.
